Carter’s cancer ~ Colorado Springs cancer photographer

Every once in a while I have the privilege of doing something truly meaningful with my photography to help someone out who is struggling. This session was very dear to my heart because not only was it done to help someone out but it was for a dear friend of mine whose paths were destined to cross. Jennifer Wyeth of Jennifer Wyeth Photography hired me for a photography business makeover from Francypants Academy and we instantly became friends. It was a crazy coincidence that she ended up moving to the same city I lived in only a few months after taking my online class.  We have tons in common and love hangin’ together.

A few months ago, we planned to go on a double date with our hubbies.  Then I got a text from her saying that she couldn’t go out with us because her son, Carter, was sick.  The next text I got from her was this: “He got diagnosed with leukemia last night. He’ll get better but it will take a few years. We are at the hospital for the weekend at least if not longer. We don’t know any details yet.”  I was SHOCKED!  I couldn’t believe how quickly her life had changed and how scary that would be for a Mama.  It made me hug my kids a little more that weekend.

Jenn and I don’t get to hang out as much anymore since Carter was diagnosed but I REALLY REALLY wanted to do something special for her so I asked her if we could please do a video and photo shoot documenting Carter’s cancer and Jenn was totally down for it.  It was SO wonderful to work with her and little Carter. He is such a cute and clever kid! He would say the darndest things. And Jenn…She has handled everything SO amazingly well! She’s been so optimistic about it all and is such a strong person. I am lucky to call you my friend, Jenn. I hope these pictures touch your heart as much as they touched mine in having the honor of taking them.

The video will be up tomorrow. It’s a tear-jerker!

FAQ Friday: How to find your magic number of sessions to take on

Have you ever felt like you took on WAAAY too many photo sessions than you should have?  I certainly have and then I wanna kick myself for taking on more than I can handle.  This especially happens during the Fall when everyone wants to do sessions.

In this video, you get to see me sporting a hat for no other reason than I was having a bad hair day.  I also share my simple formula for discovering your perfect amount of sessions to take on as a busy Mom-photographer.  Enjoy!

Trina - This is GREAT advice. I never really thought of breaking it down like that. It’s simple now! Thank you.

Mikael - I just think you are the cutest thing ever! Love watching all your videos!!

Christy Combs - You seriously crack me up! Even if you had no photography value whatsoever I would still watch your videos! Lucky for me though you have fab info…keep ‘em coming~

Miss Scarlett ~ Colorado Springs birth photographer

One of the main reasons I went to Nevada last week was to see this brand new little munchkin. Her Mama and I are close friends and were both pregnant with baby #4. We will both have 3 boys and one girl but in reversed order.  Miss Scarlett was very much anticipated as the first girl after 3 boys and we all swooned over her.  I promise you, she will not have a shortage of pink clothes and accessories.  She is already a diva! I got to snuggle her lots and also see a glimpse of what my life will look like with 4 kids in October.  It was LOVELY!  I did other sessions in Nevada that I’ll be showing you over the next few weeks too.

Keri - ahhh these are simply beautiful. I was thinking while you were here that next time you come to Carson I need to have you do some pics for us and our completed family. Let me know the next time youre making a trip out and ill save my money. these are just so preciou and what a lucky Mom to have a little princess. love the bows.

jo - ah-beautiful pictures Kelly-and no one has the right to look like that within a couple of weeks of giving birth-just saying!

Natalie Clayshulte - These are breathtaking. I love your soft approach to newborn photography.

You can do anything

A good reminder:

jennifer wyeth - I need this stapled to my forehead… I think every mom does. :)
